Psalm 27:10
“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.”
Psalm 27:10 (NASB)
Let’s look at the context of the verse first and answer a few key questions.
Who wrote it? Moses
When was it written? During the 40 years of wilderness wanderings
To whom was it written? To the Lord
For what purpose? To remind us that our time on earth is limited, and we are to use it wisely, not living for the moment, but with our eternal home in mind.
Psalm 27:10 (NASB) “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.”
_____
This Psalm of David was one of confidence…confidence in the Lord. He says in this week’s verse that even if his mother and father forsake him, the Lord will take him up. As I was reading this psalm, I couldn’t help but think about babies and children abandoned by their parents. The thing is, those children grow up to be adults that carry a lot of baggage. Whether it was through divorce, abandonment or even parents that aren’t truly present in the lives of the children under their own roof, it is heartbreaking and some relationships are never mended.
If you have ever felt abandoned by a parent in some way, I pray that you can take comfort in this week’s verse. I pray that you can have confidence in God to take you up…to love you…to be right beside you. As a believer in the finished work of Calvary, we have a Comforter that resides within us. He is always there. Not to mention, the love of our Heavenly Father goes beyond any of our closest human bonds. When we choose to draw near to God, He draws near to us.
Maybe you haven’t felt accepted, guided, heard or protected by adults in your life. God can fulfill those areas and mend your heart and soul lie no one else can. Your obligation is to trust Him and allow Him to do the work within you. He is faithful. Not only is the Holy Spirit our Comforter, He is the Healer of our hearts. He works within us to strengthen, encourage and empower us to live above this world and the circumstances that happen to us.
David was so confident in Who God was to Him.
Are we that confident in Who God is to us.
The same God of David, is the same God of today.
He will never leave you nor forsake you.
He sticks closer than a brother.
He is your light and salvation.
He is your help in times of trouble.
Spend this week soaking this verse in your spirit. Even if you’ve never felt forsaken by your parents, we have all felt disregarded, overlooked or unaccepted.
Those words aren’t in God’s nature, my friend.
Each time you look down at your bracelet this week, remember how loved and valued you are by The Almighty One.
